This lovely MBP13 non-retina has been with me since 2013. Its harddrive died a few years ago, and I decided to replace it with Samsung SSD because I wished SSD would keep the machine work fines for a few more years, and it did.
By the way, during the last 2 years, the machine is getting slower, especially when compare it with MBP13 retina display (16 GB of RAM). Now I need to get this baby back to work properly again for my new project, so I was thinking to add more RAM into it. According to Apple’s information on their website, this MBP13 non-retina mid-2012 support only 8GB of RAM (2 sticks of 4GB). I went to a shop to buy DDR3 (1600) RAM to upgrade, but I didn’t know that there are 2 kinds of DDR3 ; DDR3 and DDR3L.
So I googled to check if this mid-2012 baby is compatible with DDR3L. It’s clearly mentioned in many forums that it’s good with DDR3L. But, the other information I found it, this mid-2012 MBP13 supports up to 16GB of RAM, not 8GB as Apple stated on their website. I wasn’t 100% sure about this, so I checked with many shops in the mall, and they confirm it’s 16. Awesome! with some hesitation, I added up my budget and go for 16GB.
Hopefully this RAM upgrade and the current SSD will keep this mac works properly for about a year. I definitely don’t want to go for the MBP with Touchbar, it doesn’t make sense. I’ll be waiting to see new major upgrade of MBP with more practical features coming soon.
